Pregnancy Book Reviews

Throughout this pregnancy I have been reading....a LOT. I've pretty much picked up every pregnancy book out there at some point and I thought I'd post my reviews on some of my favs and flops.

The Mommy Docs Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy
LOVE LOVE. Written by moms who are also OBGYNs, this book has been my go-to bible the entire time. My sister recommended it to me and I am SO glad she did. It's nice to have a "normal meter" resource so I know when to call the doc and what is ok.

You Having A Baby by Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz
I picked this book up from my local library. I thought it had some good information, but did not care for the layout. The diagrams were pointless and even ridiculous. Basically it was a couple hundred pages of "everything you put in your body, on your body or around your body, has a potential affect on your baby".  I did like the section on anxiety and stress and the affects on the baby, but aside from that, I would say this book is one you can probably skip.

You Raising A Baby by Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz
SKIP this. I couldn't even make it through the first few pages. The diagrams are once again silly and the layout is terrible. The information is sure to be in other books that are laid out MUCH better. This one was a flop and I was thankful it was only a library book.

Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy
I so wish this book was updated more frequently (though I doubt pregnancy has changed too much since 2007). I enjoyed the candor of this book and the writing style. It gets a tad preachy in certain sections, but nothing that is too hard to ignore if it's not your thing. Despite it's drawbacks, the information was good, the format was easy to read and definitely had that "girlfriend" vibe. I'd say this one is worth having on hand.

If you are looking for a good book for Dad's, NJhusband read through Your Pregnancy for the Father to Be. He liked it, though it did turn him all pregnancy police on him for awhile, constantly monitoring what I took, ate and did, quoting "the book" to me. LOL  Overall he enjoyed it though and got a lot of out it and for him to even sit down and read a book is a miracle in and of itself!

*None of these publishers know anything about it. These are books I either purchased or got through our library for my own interest!
