I picked this book up without knowing it was part of a series. Though I enjoyed the story, I always felt like I was missing something and now I know why!
Cassie is recovering, both physically and mentally, from a gunshot wound she suffered on her ranch. A devastating injury for a Wild West show target shooter, she struggles to reinvent herself and has a bit of a roller coaster romance (or two) in the process.
I felt the romance aspect was weak and sloppy, but the detail put into the workings of the ranch and the supporting characters more than made up for it. There is no way to read this book and not be enamored with Mavis (the Mor/Ma of the story) and Arnett, the grumpy, yet lovable, neighbor.
I definitely recommend reading the whole series in order. I will definitely be reading this series from start to finish!
Bethany House provided me with a copy of this book to review, but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my own observations and thoughts while reading this novel.
